A State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has adjourned the case involving Akogun Abayomi Olumide, popularly known as Lustay, a supporter of 2026 governorship aspirant, Engr. Kayode Ojo.
Lustay, a former Chairman of the Ekiti State Microcredit and Enterprise Development Agency, is facing charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, armed robbery, attempted murder, unlawful possession of offensive weapons, and malicious damage, instituted by the Ekiti State Government.
Recall that Lustay was relieved of his appointment by Governor Biodun Oyebanji in August 2025 over alleged gross misconduct. He was subsequently arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on January 1, 2026, in connection with the allegations.
The defendant has consistently denied the charges, describing them as trumped-up and politically motivated, alleging that they were aimed at punishing him for refusing to withdraw his support for Engr. Kayode Ojo’s 2026 governorship ambition.
About four days ago, Lustay was reportedly hospitalised after developing complications from diabetes while in custody at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre. His supporters claimed his health deteriorated due to what they described as harsh detention conditions unsuitable for a diabetic patient. Sources said he was rushed to the prison clinic following the development.
At the resumed hearing, counsel to the Ekiti State Government, Oluwaseun Olasanmi, informed the court that she was not in possession of the necessary documents required to proceed with her argument.
Counsel to the defendant, Adedayo Adewunmi, urged the court to grant an adjournment to enable the prosecution provide the required documents.
In his ruling, Justice Omotosho admonished the prosecution to ensure timely preparation and production of all relevant documents and subsequently adjourned the case to February 4, 2026, for further hearing.
Meanwhile, loyalists of Engr. Kayode Ojo have continued to allege that his supporters are being subjected to unjust arrests, prosecution, and persecution in Ekiti State. The Engr. Kayode Ojo Team (EKO) has repeatedly described the alleged actions as barbaric, uncouth, uncivilised, and unacceptable.
