The Nigeria Customs Service Training College, Goron Dutse, Kano, on Monday, October 6, 2025, witnessed a change of leadership as Deputy Comptroller of Customs Umar Atiku officially assumed duty as the new Commandant of the College.
His assumption followed a brief handover ceremony held at the college premises, as announced in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, by the College’s Public Relations Officer, Christian Philip.
In line with military and paramilitary traditions, Deputy Comptroller Atiku was accorded a ceremonial Quarter Guard parade on arrival, signifying the formal commencement of his tenure.
During the event, the new Commandant inspected the guard of honour and later addressed senior officers and staff of the institution. He expressed deep appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for the trust reposed in him and for his commitment to capacity building and professional excellence within the Service.
“I am honoured to serve as Commandant of the Customs Training College, Goron Dutse. I sincerely thank the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for his confidence and support. I remain committed to promoting discipline, professionalism, and capacity development to make this college a true centre of excellence,” Atiku stated.
The statement highlighted that Deputy Comptroller Atiku brings to his new role a wealth of operational and administrative experience, having served in various commands and formations across the Nigeria Customs Service. His appointment is expected to further enhance the college’s mandate in training, retraining, and developing officers and men of the Service.
It added that the leadership transition is in line with the Nigeria Customs Service’s ongoing reform agenda, which prioritises human capital development, professionalism, discipline, and institutional excellence.
The Customs Training College, Goron Dutse, remains a cornerstone in the Service’s human resource development framework, and with Deputy Comptroller Atiku at the helm, staff and trainees are optimistic about a renewed era of growth, efficiency, and excellence.
