The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has reiterated its commitment to internal democracy, declaring that all aspirants seeking National Assembly tickets ahead of the 2027 elections must test their popularity among party members rather than rely on perceived endorsements.
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, the party aligned itself with the positions of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, former Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Asiwaju Segun Oni, and the first executive governor of the state, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, stressing that none of them has officially endorsed any aspirant.

According to the statement, while political endorsements may occur in some quarters and are recognised within the democratic space, they do not override the provisions of the APC Constitution, particularly Article 20, which guarantees a fair and transparent process for all contestants. The party noted that Governor Oyebanji has consistently maintained neutrality, distancing himself from any endorsement claims. Similarly, Dr. Fayemi was quoted as urging aspirants to focus on grassroots engagement and winning the confidence of party members rather than depending on elite backing.
The statement added that Asiwaju Segun Oni and Otunba Adebayo have also emphasized the need to respect due process, underscoring the importance of internal democracy as a cornerstone of the party’s credibility.
“The APC in Ekiti State remains committed to providing a level playing field for all aspirants. No individual or group should misrepresent the stance of our leaders to gain undue advantage,” the statement read. While not ruling out the possibility of consensus where it is genuinely achieved, the party maintained that such an arrangement must reflect the collective will of stakeholders. It warned against imposing candidates under the guise of consensus.
The party further stated that where consensus fails, direct primaries would be adopted in line with the party’s constitution.
“Our leaders have spoken clearly: let every aspirant go to the field and test his or her political weight. That remains the only credible path to ensuring fairness, unity, and electoral success,” Dipe stated.
The APC reaffirmed its resolve to uphold transparency, party discipline, and democratic values as preparations for the forthcoming elections gather momentum.
