The Ekiti State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko Ajisafe has announced commencement of market sanitation across Ekiti State tomorrow, Thursday, 14th March 2024.
The commissioner told the leadership of Igbo and Hausa traders in her office today as a follow-up to last week’s meeting with market leaders including Iyalajes and Iyalojas where she announced that every Thursday between 7- 10 am would be for cleaning markets, stalls, and shops in major roads in all towns and villages in Ekiti State .
In a statement, Erelu Aluko Ajisafe sought the cooperation of Ekiti traders and the general public, emphasized total compliance, saying officials of the ministry and other relevant bodies would be around to monitor the exercise. She reiterated that the exercise would not only make the state clean but would save residents from imminent diseases and outbreaks of cholera.
The commissioner applauded Governor Oyebanji for investing heavily towards making Ekiti state the cleanest in Nigeria, saying the distribution of dino bins to local Governments across the state and its placement in strategic places was a pointer to making Ekiti free of diseases and outbreaks of cholera.
The commissioner further stated that Lagos and Ondo states have long set aside one day in a week to clean their environments and Markets.
