A former Corps Member deployed to Ekiti State, Hannah Bawa has been awarded by President Bola Tinubu in recognition of her outstanding and meritorious performance to humanity during her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme between 2021 and 2022.
Hannah, wish state code EK/21C/2667, emerged as one of the 210 awardees of the NYSC 2020-2023 combined Presidential award which took place at the banquet hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Tinubu awarded Hannah with a cash prize of N250,000, automatic employment into the Federal Civil Service, Scholarship from PGD up to PhD, a gold Medal and a Certificate of honour signed by the President himself.
Tinubu, represented by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, hailed Hannah and other awardees for their discipline, commitment, selflessness, teamwork, patriotism and integrity.
Hannah, who hailed from Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger state, had her early education at home and later got admitted to Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai in Niger state to read a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass communications.
Upon graduation, she was mobilised and deployed to Ekiti State for her mandatory Natuonal Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
While in the camp, she participated in all routine of activities but was outstanding in volleyball competition. She also demonstrated her professional skills at the Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) which enlightened corps members on Camp activities.
Hannah was posted to Glory of God College, Ise-Ekiti where she efficiently taught English language and Literature-in-English to the level of improving students performance in external examinations, where her school recorded 95% success due to free extra lessons she organised for students.
Driven by her home training in agric Ventures, she joined the agro-allied community development service group. As an active member, she spearheaded a sensitization lecture for the community on theme “Own a farmland”.
To demonstrate her insatiable passion for food security, she led a team that planted pumpkin vegetable (Ugu) on a demonstration farm which yielded bumper harvest. Her host community got inspired and embraced pumpkin vegetable farming which generated many employment opportunities.
Her desire to make an impact in her host community propelled her to execute the following personal community development projects thereby leaving a lasting legacy.
These life-transforming projects included: Construction of a new borehole at Ejire Street, Ise-Ekiti which ameliorated the sufferings of the community for many years, Payment of school fees of indigent primary four pupils of Testimony International school, Ise-Ekiti to enable them pursue their educational career and Sensitized the students of United comprehensive High School, Ise-Ekiti on sex education for one month.
