The First Lady of Ekiti State, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, has restated her unwavering commitment to the welfare of widows and the elderly across the state through various humanitarian projects initiated by her office.
Speaking during a community outreach in Ikogosi Ekiti, Dr. Oyebanji distributed food items and cash donations to hundreds of widows and aged residents in memory of her late mother-in-law, Abiyamo Esther Oyebanji.
Dr. Oyebanji praised Mama Esther as a woman who deeply understood the challenges faced by vulnerable groups, having experienced hardship firsthand. She described her as someone who believed in lifting others—especially women—through acts of support and encouragement.
“This empowerment programme is our heartfelt tribute to her legacy of compassion and care,” the First Lady said. “Today, we empower these courageous widows in her honour.”
In her address, she reassured the beneficiaries of their worth and importance. “You are not forgotten. You are seen, valued, and deeply cherished. As you receive this support today, may it rekindle hope, inspire resilience, and open new paths of opportunity for you and your families,” she added.
Reflecting on the life of Mama Esther, Dr. Oyebanji described her as a pillar of strength, a woman of quiet wisdom, and a source of love and kindness. “She lived a life marked by compassion and generosity—living simply, but giving abundantly. Her comforting words, helping hands, and fervent prayers carried many through their darkest times.”
The event was both a gesture of support and a poignant celebration of a woman whose enduring legacy continues to inspire acts of kindness throughout the state.
