Ekiti State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) has disclosed plans to create 2000 jobs and boost the internally generated revenue of the State by strengthening the resilience of the drivers and players in poultry production, sheep and goat, abattoir operations, cattle market and pasture development in the State.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade disclosed this during the presentation of the Annual Work Plan and Budget of the Project to the State Technical Committee.
Boluwade said the project is aimed at improving productivity and commercialization of targeted livestock production and strengthening livelihoods including those affected by Farmers -Herders conflicts.
He hinted that L-PRES Project would embark on innovative and meaningful ideas that would be of benefit to the livestock farmers who are the direct beneficiary of the project to execute the 2024 AWP&B.
In his remarks,the Chairman of the State Technical Committee Engr. Gbenga Odesanmi charged Committee members to contribute significantly towards the proposed Annual Work Plan and Budget by bringing their expertise to bear on the work plan.
Odesanmi said that the livestock sector has the potential to create over 2000 jobs in the State as well as foster economic development of the State.
In his welcome address, State Project Coordinator,Mr. Olayinka Adedipe said the project would create employment for the teeming youths in the State and encompass public and private participation while the vulnerable groups would be considered.
Mr. Adedipe mentioned that the project is built around five components which include; Institutional and innovative systems strengthening,Livestock value chain enchantment,Crisis prevention and conflict mitigation, Project coordination and management, Contingency Emergency Response Component.
The State Technical Committee Members are: The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment,Mr. Dele Ogunsemoyin, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources,Mr. Babatunde Alokan, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Utilities and Infrastructure, Engr. Olumide Ajayi represented by Mrs. Fisayo Aterigbade.
