The chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council Comrade Kayode Babatuyi has sought the cooperation of Federal Road Safety Corps to checkmate non journalists using the union’s sticker on their vehicles.
Comrade Babatuyi made the request at the FRSC office along Ado- Ikere road on Tuesday during a courtesy visit.The chairman who stated that urgent steps needed to be be taken against motorists using journalists stickers, saying such enforcement would help checkmate fake journalists.
The chairman said the recognized sticker for journalists would be handed over to Road Safety Officers for them to know those using fake stickers.
While assuring the FRSC of the union’s readiness to project their activities, the chairman hinted that the union would work harmoniously with the corps to flush out quacks among journalists in Ekiti state.
Speaking on the visit, Babatuyi said it was a familiarisation visit by the new executives to further strengthen the mutual relationship between the Union and FRSC in Ekiti State.
The chairman further called on the command to increase enlightenment programmes to reduce accident on Ekiti Roads.
Responding, the sector Commander of FRSC, Ekiti State Command, Mr Olusola Joseph assured the union of his readiness to work harmoniously with Ekiti state Journalists, he said journalists roles are vital to crash/ accident reduction in Nigeria.
While commending the new executives for the visit, he promised to accord journalists the respect they deserved. Saying their reportage could mar and make individual or organizations.
Explaining the nature of their job, the sector commander said enlightenment and enforcement were the folcrum of their jobs. He promised Ekiti residents more enlightenment that would help reduce crash on the high ways.
Sector Commander, Olusola said the command has procured two towing vans for effective operation of the command. He, However warned motorists to desist from packing wrongly, saying anybody that runs foul of the FRSC rules will have his or her vehicle towed .
He further advised car owners to stop using detergent to wash their cars and plate numbers, saying doing so would make the car and it’s plate number fade away. He However, recommended only water.
