The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti State Council, has announced plans to institute an annual public lecture in honour of the first Chief Press Secretary in Ekiti State, Chief Akin Fasae.
The initiative, according to the Council, is aimed at celebrating the enduring legacy and contributions of the veteran journalist and public communication expert to the growth of the profession in the state.
The Chairman of the Council, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, disclosed this during the presentation of a formal letter of notification to Chief Fasae. He explained that the decision was reached by the State Executive Council of the Union and subsequently approved by the National President of the NUJ, Alhaji Alhassan Yahaya.

Babatuyi said the event, to be known as the “Chief Biodun Akin Fasae Annual Lecture,” would feature a keynote address by a distinguished speaker, followed by a panel discussion and interactive session with participants.
He revealed that the maiden edition of the lecture is scheduled to hold on March 26, 2026, at Sanni Abacha Hall, Old Governor’s Office, Okebarike, Ado-Ekiti.
According to him, the lecture will be delivered by the lawmaker representing Oye/Ikole Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Akintunde Rotimi.
The NUJ Chairman stated that the programme is designed to promote discourse on media professionalism, ethics, and effective public communication, while also inspiring journalists and communication practitioners within and outside Ekiti State.
He added that the lecture would reinforce the importance of ethical journalism, strengthen public communication practices, and ensure that Chief Fasae’s legacy continues to inspire future generations of media professionals.
In his response, Chief Fasae expressed deep appreciation to the leadership of the NUJ for what he described as a thoughtful and overwhelming gesture. He pledged his continued support and commitment to the development of the Union and the journalism profession at large.
