The Ekiti State Police Command in separate operations arrested three suspects and the recovery of stolen vehicles, a motorcycle, and dangerous weapons.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, the Command disclosed that a suspected thief, identified as Adediwura Babatubde, was arrested in Ondo Town following a report of a stolen motorcycle.
The case was initially reported on December 17, 2025, by a student of Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti at the Odo-Ado Divisional Police Headquarters, after his Bajaj motorcycle was stolen within the campus.Police operatives swung into action, trailed the suspect to Ondo State and effected his arrest. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the theft and further admitted to stealing a Toyota Camry, popularly known as “Big Daddy,” from the same campus in December 2025. The stolen Toyota Camry and the motorcycle were recovered, while the owners have since been contacted and have reclaimed their properties.
In a related development, the Command also arrested two suspects over an attack on officials of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Ikere-Ekiti.
The police said the incident occurred on April 2, 2026, when about 20 armed hoodlums reportedly stormed the NURTW Lagos Motor Park in Ikere-Ekiti in five vehicles, attacking executives in an attempt to take over the park’s leadership.
The hoodlums were also alleged to have destroyed campaign posters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, across parts of the town. Following a swift response by the police, two suspects—Sunday Ogunsakin and Gbenga Oluwatosin—were arrested, while others fled the scene.
Items recovered from the suspects include three cutlasses, one jackknife, and a Toyota Previa bus believed to have been used during the attack. Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, Adegoroye Falade Michael, urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of security agencies through timely and credible information.
He warned against acts capable of disrupting the peace in the state, reiterating the Command’s resolve to clamp down on criminal elements and ensure the safety of lives and property.
