The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed a viral video claiming that bandits were planning to attack Ekiti State University (EKSU) and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), describing it as fake, misleading, and intended to cause fear among residents.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, said the Command conducted a thorough investigation and discovered that the video was artificially generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to the police, the content was part of a fabricated rumour designed to create unnecessary panic across the state.
Following the circulation of the video, the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, ordered the deployment of adequate personnel to strategic locations, including border towns, schools, public and private facilities, worship centres, and other identified black spots.
The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, assuring that security agencies are fully prepared to maintain peace and protect lives and property across Ekiti State.
CP Eribo appealed to residents to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security operatives, and promptly report any suspicious movements or incidents to the nearest police station. He also provided emergency contact numbers: 08062335577 and 09064050086
