Ogun, popular known as OFT advised governor Oyebanji to use the money to fix the bad roads in the state, stated it was wrong for the government to think of another flyover at this time when most of the state roads have become death traps and practically becoming impassable.

The former Commissioner for Works and Transportation cautioned Oyebanji against such a misplaced priority. She said embarking on such at this time would mean the current government is insensitive to the plight of the citizens.

Ogun, in a statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Dimeji Olayinka, on Friday, urged the governor to rather deploy the fund to reconstruct and rehabilitate some of the bad roads, engage in programmes that will ameliorate the suffering of Ekiti people rather than embarking on another elephant project and programmes

The PDP State Scribe added that the overhead bridge built at Okesa Area of Ado Ekiti , which she supervised as a Commissioner under Governor Ayodele Fayose, was enough at this moment to control traffic and prevent cases of congestion in the capital city.

She described the mission to spend a huge sum of N17 billion to build another flyover at this time as grossly insensitive and showed that the current government is only attached to the project under questionable circumstances.

The PDP Scribe appealed to the governor to change his mind and prevent a situation whereby the funds available to Ekiti will be misapplied.

The statement reads in part,
“It will be a crime against God and humanity for any government in Ekiti State to be contemplating another flyover at this time when the economy has helped in decongesting our roads. No reason for government to think of this.

The question to ask is that, what is the government thinking of using the flyover to control? Because the roads are now naturally decongested because of the fuel pump price, which now stands at N670 per litre.

All over the country, particularly Ekiti, citizens now prefer motorcycles and trekking to taking their cars out, so there is no traffic to even control in the first instance.

Instead of this gross misapplication of our funds, let Governor Oyebanji work on the rehabilitation of the Ado-Ikere road, Ikere-Ise-Emure road, Ijan-Ise road, Ado-Ifaki road and other federal roads like Ado-Igede-Aramoko road, Ado-Ikare road and the long stretched Ifaki-Ilasa-Omuo road. These are roads that control the economy of our dear state.

If the governor should defy this advice and go ahead with this project, then it will be concluded that the government is desperate and have an ulterior motive with respect to the state funds and not to work for the people” Mrs Ogun concluded.
