Ekiti State Government has commenced renovation work at the football pitch of Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti.
The renovation of the football pitch is part of efforts of the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to promote the state’s rich sports culture.
The renovation work, which commenced with the excavation of the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium football pitch, will be upgraded to serve as a hub for talent development and nurture future sports stars in the state.
In an interview, Director of Facility, Ekiti State Sports Commission, Odeyemi Michael, said in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday that natural grass in the pitch would be replaced with synthetic grass.
He said: “Work started since last week and we have been seeing the hand of the governor in renovating the pitch to put it in a better shape to meet FIFA standard.
“The scope of the work covers the football pitch presently but other things might follow later and the plan of the government is to lay a synthetic turf.”
He equally noted that the governor is giving the football pitch a much-needed facelift to encourage youths to explore the business side of sports by creating an enabling environment for sports entrepreneurs.
