The Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC) has announced Saturday, December 12, 2026, as the date for the conduct of local government and local council development area elections across the state.
The Commission made this known on Monday while releasing the official timetable and guidelines for the exercise. According to EKSIEC, all registered political parties intending to participate in the elections are required to obtain Form EKSIEC 001 for their candidates from the Commission’s headquarters.
As outlined in the timetable, the issuance of the Notice of Election will commence on December 15, 2025. Collection of Forms EKSIEC 001 and 002 is scheduled for February 21, 2026, while ward congresses for councillorship candidates will hold on February 28, 2026.




The submission of completed nomination forms by political parties has been fixed for April 16, 2026, ahead of the final election day on December 12, 2026.
EKSIEC stated that the timetable also covers other critical activities, including deadlines for candidate submissions, campaign periods, and voting procedures. The Commission emphasized that strict compliance with the outlined schedule and guidelines is mandatory for all political parties.
The Commission assured stakeholders of its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible local government elections in the state and urged political parties to cooperate fully to ensure a smooth electoral process.
