Ekiti State Government has warned those fanning ember of crisis in Araromi Obo Ekiti, Irepodun/ Ifelodun Local Government over Elemobo Throne to desist or face the wrath of law, saying government won’t tolerate any bloodshed from those hiding under the guise of pursuing traditional rights.
For expeditious filling of the vacant traditional stool, Mrs Afuye called on the kingmakers to immediately begin selection process from Elemobo Ruling House for speedy installation of a new king.
The Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye spoke on Tuesday, at a peace parley with the stakeholders of the community, held in her office in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital.
Interfacing in the chieftaincy matter that has caused conundrum and clog in the wheel of installation process, Mrs Afuye, in a statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Victor Ogunje, said government would not hesitate to arrest anyone caught harassing the people over the lingering tussle.
The Deputy Governor was emphatic that those trying to stoke violence in the community over the installation should have a rethink, saying the town will profit nothing if the matter result in bloodshed, acrimony and disunity.
Going down memory lane, she noted that court had earlier affirmed that the family of one Roland Olowookere, was not entitled to the throne of Elemobo of Araromi Obo Ekiti.
Mrs Afuye added that the same judiciary, also upheld the 1933 intelligence report, which pronounced the family of Elemobo as the only ruling House in Araromi-Obo Ekiti.
She explained that only the same court of law also has the power to do otherwise on the matter and warned that government would not fold its arms and watch a group of people or individuals to create fear or security threat in the society.
To fasttrack action in resolving the logjam, the Deputy Governor, ordered the kingmakers in the community to begin selection process in stringent compliance with the Ekiti State chiefs laws and Araromi-Obo chieftaincy declaration.
“Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration is committed to ensuring peace and tranquility across the communities. We will not for any reason impose anyone or candidate as a Monarch in Community where there is vacant stool.
“Let me call on the ruling Houses in Communities where there were vacant stools to embrace peace and enthrone someone in order to bring about meaningful development.
“Community where this no king would find it difficult to make their views known to government since there was no formidable team that could fight their cause”.
