Following the reported case of Examination malpractices against Ekiti state in the just concluded WAEC and NECO, an erstwhile Commissioner for Works in the state and People’s Democratic Party Chieftain, Ogun Funmilayo Theresa, popularly called OFT has called on Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the convocation of education summit to curb examination fraud in the State.
Funmi Ogun said every Ekiti man should be concerned about how Ekiti was rated high in examination malpractice in WAEC and NECO conducted recently . She was of the opinion that such practice can affect the future of the state and the qualities of human resources being produced as graduates.
The immediate past State Secretary of the PDP gave the advice while addressing journalists in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.
She promised that the PDP will reverse the bad situation when take over power in 2026, the way the party did in 2017 under Governor Ayodele Fayose, when Ekiti came first in NECO in Nigeria.
Funmi Ogun advised that the government shouldn’t look on and allow the situation to degenerate to a level when Ekiti becomes a known arena for examination fraud..
“That is why Governor Oyebanji, as the current leader, should convoke an education summit to address this issue. It is not an issue that should just be treated with levity.
“Ekiti, that is respected as the land of honour and fountain of knowledge can’t become a land of examination malpractice under APC government and do nothing to address the situation. That will be bad.
“I call on all men of good conscience to advise Governor Oyebanji to take decisive action against miracle centres and schools, both private and public notorious for this kind of perfidy to save our state from doom”.
Going down memory lane, Funmi Ogun said what the PDP did in 2017 when it realised that education was going down in Ekiti was to convoke an education summit where salient decisions were taken.
“When this kind of situation surfaced in 2014 when the PDP took over Ekiti, there was an education summit where experts of Ekiti origin were brought in to make inputs and that addressed the situation.
“In fact, in 2017, Ekiti came first in NECO in Nigeria, which was the first of its kind. The state also did well in both WAEC and NECO in 2015 and 2016. The records are there”, Funmi Ogun said this in her advice.
