A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Bamidele Faparusi, has commended the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji for demonstrating to be a team player and returned the former cabinet members to their earlier positions.
Faparusi, former Commissioner for Public Utilities, congratulated the commissioners and Special Advisers, urging them to bring their wealth of experiences to bear and fasttrack development to the state in all spheres of the economy.
The former Federal lawmaker, gave the commendation, on Wednesday, in his congratulatory message to the newly constituted cabinet members, who were returned to their positions after being dissolved by Governor Oyebanji.
Underscoring the significance of the governor’s large-heartedness to return the cabinet members, Faparusi averred that the wisdom exhibited will help to accelerate delivery in governance before the expiration of the governor’s first term tenure next year.
He posited that the cabinet members are old horses in governance who understand the dynamics in terms of policy formulation and execution and as well have vast knowledge of the policy thrust of the current government.
The former Commissioner opined that injecting a new batch of appointees into government at this critical time could create a wedge in terms of performance, which would be disservice to the populace.
“Delivery in government is very important and this is a function of the qualities and experiences of those should appointed into critical positions like commissioners and Special Advisers.
“These cabinet members had manned the posts for three years. They understood the six pillars of governance and how to execute it. There was a good wisdom around their being brought back.
“This underscored that we have a governor who is a team player . A governor who values inclusion, qualities, experiences, knowledge and how best to deliver to the people.
“Opening the party to produce a new set of appointees could trigger political horse-trading that could destabilise the party ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, and our governor has carefully prevented this.
“I congratulate the returned cabinet members. I appeal to them to reciprocate the trust reposed in them, by being committed and loyal to the governor, our party and the people of the state, in whom they are holding their positions in trust”.
Faparusi saluted Governor Oyebanji for factoring political permutations into governance, saying the wisdom he applied will help the All Progressives Congress approaches the June 20,2026 governorship election as a solidly united body.
The former Federal parliamentarian, said reshuffling the cabinet in a wholesome fashion, at a time the party is preparing for a major political battle could spell doom, saying such booby trap is better avoided than being tested.
“Clean sweeping of the cabinet at a time like this could pose danger. It may factionalise our party ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election. This is dangerous because of the experience of 2014, when we lost reelection to the PDP due to little internal skirmishes we didn’t pay attention to.
“But with these experienced politicians and technocrats still manning the posts, the APC will remain solidly bonded and united, while delivery in governance will be sustained to give our party the required connections and popularity among the electorate to win the electoral battle”, he said.
