The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ekiti State Sector Command, has commenced the 2025 Operation Zero Special Patrol as part of its commitment to ensuring a safer motoring environment across the state, especially during the yuletide season.
The operation is designed to enforce zero tolerance for traffic infractions capable of causing or inducing road crashes, in line with the Corps’ nationwide mandate to reduce road traffic crashes and fatalities.
In a release by SRC Tajudeen A BALOGUN , Sector Public Education Officer(SPEO) to effectively achieve road sanity, the Ekiti State Sector Command has deployed substantial human and material resources across the state. These include 735 regular and special marshals, 13 patrol vehicles, two ambulances, and one tow truck, all strategically positioned to guarantee the safety of motorists and other road users on major highways and inner roads.
As part of the operation, mobile court sittings have been activated across the three senatorial districts of Ekiti State to ensure prompt dispensation of justice. So far, 62 traffic offenders have been prosecuted, with four discharged and acquitted on compassionate grounds and for lack of sufficient evidence.
In a bid to further enhance road safety, the Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ekiti State Chapter, organized a medical outreach programme for drivers. During the exercise, motorists had their vital signs and eyesight checked free of charge. The Corps emphasized that only healthy drivers with adequate knowledge of traffic rules and highway codes can guarantee safe road usage, noting that good health is essential for alertness and concentration while driving.
FRSC personnel have also been strategically deployed to manage the surge in traffic volume during the festive period. Traffic control activities are ongoing at major traffic-prone areas and black spots, while the Command’s Help Areas and ambulance points at Agbado and Omuo have been fully activated to respond swiftly to emergencies.

The Sector Command stated that sensitization and public enlightenment campaigns are ongoing at motor parks across the state to educate drivers and passengers on safe road practices. Members of the public were also encouraged to make use of the Corps’ toll-free emergency line 122 to report road crashes, traffic obstructions, congestion, and other road safety emergencies requiring immediate attention.
While commending the cooperation received so far from the motoring public, the Sector Commander, CC Sanya Adeoye, FCIPurS, MICLT, appealed for continued cooperation, patience, and understanding from all road users as the Corps intensifies efforts to ensure safety on Ekiti roads.
He also extended the Command’s season’s greetings, wishing motorists a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration and urging them to drive safely throughout the festive season and beyond.
