The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Lagos State governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran, has confirmed the nomination of Nollywood actress Funke Akindele as his running mate, saying she would add value to his candidacy in the 2023 Governorship election.
Adediran made this known in a Twitter thread on Tuesday.
He said, “I appeal to the entire populace to work with me and my running mate, who will add more value to my candidacy.
Jandor, as fondly called said his
running mate has a clear understanding of the task ahead for the emancipation of the good people of Lagos state. He added that the journey demands focus, resilience and tenacity.
The Lagos State (PDP) Governorship candidate said the service and advocacy of his running mate, Funke Akindele had positively transformed many lives and the society.
Jandor said, ” I am proud to present Barrister Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele as my running mate and the Deputy Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in Lagos for the 2023 general elections. “Together, we will serve and offer you a breath of fresh air.”
While confirming her candidacy, Akindele opined that she is suspending her acting career to take on her new assignment as the Deputy Governorship candidate of PDP in Lagos State.
According to Funke Akindele, This was a sacrifice she had to make to “rescue” the people of Lagos State
In the video she shared on her Instagram page on Tuesday, the actress said, “I am not unaware of the cost of this assignment on my vibrant career, which I must now necessarily put on hold.
“It’s a huge personal sacrifice. My resolve is that no sacrifice is too huge for the actualisation of the urgent mission to rescue our people and our dear state.”
Speaking on her reason for accepting to deputize Olajide Adediran, Akindele said, “I saw it as an opportunity to help liberate and improve the wellbeing of our people, particularly the deprived youths, women and the girl child.
“My decision is not just to accept this huge responsibility but to also work tirelessly and complement Jandor’s burning desire to see our dear Lagos live up to her full potential”
Recall that Akindele’s announcement came two weeks after her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, popularly known as JJC Skillz, announced that they have gone their separate ways.
