As Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, formally submitted his governorship nomination form at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, the Chairman of Ajoni Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Prince (Amb.) Michael Ogungbemi, has extended his congratulations to the governor over what he described as an “impressive outing.”
Ogungbemi commended the massive support Oyebanji enjoyed from key party stakeholders during the submission ceremony, held at the Muhammadu Buhari House in the Federal Capital Territory, describing it as a clear reflection of the governor’s growing acceptability and strong chances of victory in the forthcoming APC primary election slated for October 27, 2025.
In a congratulatory message issued after the event, Ogungbemi expressed confidence that Oyebanji would secure the APC ticket without a serious contest, noting that the calibre of politicians present at the submission ceremony signaled overwhelming backing from the party’s influential figures.
“The barrage of attacks being hurled at the governor recently do not in any way suggest waning popularity or party rejection,” he said.
Ogungbemi downplayed criticisms from opposition voices, claiming they are largely confined to online platforms and lack the political structure on the ground to pose any real threat.
“The governor’s adversaries are only visible on social media. They have no real political base or support system to challenge his candidature effectively,” he stated.
Looking ahead to the June 20, 2026 governorship election, Ogungbemi predicted a landslide victory for Oyebanji, citing his performance, leadership style, and grassroots connection as factors that have earned him massive public goodwill.
“Outstanding Among His Peers”
Describing Oyebanji as one of the best-performing governors in Nigeria, Ogungbemi said:
“Among the 36 state governors, Governor Oyebanji stands out in terms of performance. His record is impressive across key sectors like education, infrastructure, workers’ welfare, and youth empowerment.”
He highlighted landmark projects such as the Ado-Ekiti Flyover, completion of the Ekiti Cargo International Airport, and the introduction of free education and minimum wage, as well as prompt salary payments.
According to him, over 20,000 youths have been gainfully employed across formal and informal sectors under Oyebanji’s administration — a feat he attributed to the governor’s innovative and people-centric approach to governance.
“A Servant-Leader Committed to True Democracy”
Ogungbemi also praised the governor’s commitment to internal democracy within the APC, noting how Oyebanji involved party leaders in cabinet formation and allowed local councils to operate with full financial autonomy.
“Governor Oyebanji has handed power to the people. The screening and appointment of commissioners were done with input from local leaders, showing deep respect for party structures and grassroots representation.”
On fiscal management, he described the governor as prudent and transparent, executing multiple capital-intensive projects without plunging the state into unsustainable debt.
“His austere lifestyle and financial discipline have enabled him to deliver magnificent projects without overburdening the state with unnecessary loans.”
“Victory is Certain”
Ogungbemi expressed optimism that Ekiti people would reward Oyebanji’s performance with resounding support in both the APC primary and the general election.
“Across the six pillars of his administration, Governor Oyebanji has proven himself a competent and trusted leader. The attacks from the opposition will not dent his popularity or chances. Victory is already secured through his noble actions,” he concluded.
