A member representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1, comprising Ise/Orun, Ikere and Ekiti South West at the green chamber, Hon. Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo (AVM Rtd), has called on his constituents, particularly the youths to continue to support the present administration both at the State and National levels.
Hon. Ojuawo made this call on Saturday while addressing a press conference at Luxury Landing Apartments, Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
Noting that it’s a great opportunity to serve his people having served the nation as Military for 37 good years, the Honourable explained that he has offered himself to serve his constituents without any regret or complaint in spite of the fact that the demands of his office is overwhelming saying he’s up to the task as a trained military officer.
While recounting some of his milestones as a member of the tenth National Assembly, Ojuawo said the primary purpose of being in the House of Representatives is to represent the people by making laws that would enable them to live a better life.
The Honourable highlighted some of his achievements so far within his little stay in the green chamber to include passing of four bills which are; a bill to establish Federal College of Agriculture and Forestry in Ise-Ekiti in July, 2023, a bill to an act to amend veteran federation of Nigeria, 2024 – to provide for the welfare and health of military veteran, a bill to an act to amend the armed forces Cap 20, the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004 – to ensure effective and efficient application of military force of Nigeria to provide adequate protection of sovereignty of Nigeria, and a bill for an act to amend the TETFUND act to allow for research support for private tertiary institutions.
Coupled with these as explained by the military turned lawmaker are the six motions moved as well which include; a motion canvassing for inclusion of leadership training in school curriculum in July, 2023, motion sought for thorough investigation on fatal robbery at Ikere-Ekiti on 14th December, 2023, as a matter of an urgent National importance, a motion on the need to urgently investigate the tragic death of Master Damilola Iyanda, a native of Ogotun-Ekiti, a motion for an urgent need to put an end to the haemorrhage of the Nigerian economy sustained by continue exporting of raw materials and importing of finished goods into Nigeria, a motion for an urgent need to remove all the check points and instead introduce and strengthen patrols of highways in Nigeria, and a motion urging the federal government to do the channelization of the Orawo river and rebuild the collapse reservoir in Igbara-Odo Ekiti.
Stressing further, as part of his interventions at the constituency, the Honourable also mentioned payment of monthly allowance to local government party exco starting from June, 2023, Sponsored secondary school students for five days leadership training organized by children of African Leadership and Value Development Initiatives Abuja 17- 21st November, 2023, training of 32 elected councillors in Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1, for effective and efficient service delivery on 13th February, 2024, establishment of cluster farming at Ogbese/Ise Ekiti, named Ojuawo Empowerment Farm for 33 selected farmers from Ise/Orun and Ikere-Ekiti in April, 2024 as well as commencement of cluster farming at Ikato Ogotun, Empowerment Farm for 29 selected farmers from Ilawe, Igbara-Odo and Ogotun Ekiti on 2nd September, 2024 among several others.
Adding that part of the motions he would be moving this year is that the Federal Government should be paying living wage instead of minimum wage saying to sustain workers, you should be able to retain them.
“if I am loyal to my country and if what I am earning cannot sustain me, there’s no how that loyalty would work”, the Honourable stated.
Ojuawo also promised to attract several other things aside the mini stadium to be sited in Ilawe-Ekiti, and the police station to be built in Ogotun-Ekiti.
Adding that he would establish a skill acquisition centre in Ikere-Ekiti where minimum of 100 and 150 youths would be trained annually which he explained would be divided into sectors such as; mechanic, welding, ICT, and some other things that can be enduring.
For his constituents to be self-sufficient in food production, Honourable Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo maintained that there’s going to be a sector for agric that will be turning around people who will train the trainers on agricultural system. He also promised to provide solar lights across his constituency.
