The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ekiti State, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, has announced the commencement of ward-based voter registration across the 177 wards in the state from February 16 to 25, 2026.
Dr. Omoseyindemi made the disclosure while addressing online journalists who visited him at his office in Ado-Ekiti. He explained that the commission had moved the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise closer to the grassroots to enable more eligible residents who are yet to register to do so within the 10-day window.
According to him, decentralising the exercise to the ward level is aimed at making the process more accessible and less burdensome for prospective voters, who previously had to travel to INEC local government offices to complete their registration.
He noted that the exercise would run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including weekends, to accommodate individuals who may be unable to participate on week days due to work or other commitments. He added that adequate INEC personnel have been deployed to all the wards to ensure a smooth and hitch-free process.
The REC appealed to journalists to partner with the commission in ensuring peaceful and credible elections in the state. He urged media practitioners to refrain from publishing unverified information that could inflame political tensions, stressing the need for professionalism and adherence to journalistic ethics.
While acknowledging that rumours and political statements are inevitable during electioneering periods, Dr. Omoseyindemi encouraged journalists to verify information with INEC before going public. He assured residents of Ekiti State of the commission’s preparedness to conduct free, fair and credible elections, and called on all stakeholders to comply with established electoral rules and regulations.
