The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has sealed off a pure water factory operating without necessary permits and licence in Ado Ekiti.
Task force Officials of the ministry sealed A1 Pure Water situated behind 132 KVA Omisanjana for using unhygienic source of water which pose health hazards to its customers.
In a statement made available to journalists, noted that the operation of A1 pure water factory poses a lot of health and Environmental hazard to the masses. The statement reads in part;.”The source of water used for the production of sachet water was identified as water from abandoned water well from a location across the road.
The practice raised serious health concerns among environmental health officers who were on a sanitary routine inspection of the area as the activities of the owner posed a significant threat to public health.
The utilization of well water, especially without proper treatment and regulation, can lead to the contamination of drinking water, exposing consumers to various health risks.”
The leader of the team Mr Samuel Adebayo emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “The operation of this water factory poses a direct threat to the health and safety of the residents of Ekiti State. We must take immediate action to prevent any further harm to public health.”
The water factory was found to violate several standards and requirements set forth for sachet water production, further exacerbating the risk to public health.
In light of these findings, The Environmental Sanitation Taskforce officials from the Ministry sealed off the factory ”
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko Ajisafe stated that “The illegal operation of A1 Pure Water represents a clear disregard for public health and safety regulations. We will not tolerate such actions that put the lives of our citizens at risk.”
She added that the closure of the water factory serves as a stern warning to other businesses operating within the state to adhere strictly to environmental regulations and standards.
The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding the environment and promoting public health throughout Ekiti State. The statement concluded.
