Popular Oyo State broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, has explained that his decision to contest the 2027 governorship election was guided by what he described as divine approval and a genuine desire to serve the people.
Hamzat, who is contesting on the platform of the Accord Party, said the decision followed wide consultations with advisers and supporters, as well as prayers for divine direction. He disclosed this while speaking on his programme on Agidigbo FM on Monday.
He thanked supporters who attended his declaration rally and acknowledged advisers who warned him against joining the race, noting that he respected all views but was personally convinced his ambition aligned with a higher purpose.
According to him, after weighing both encouragements and cautions, he prayed over the matter and felt assured to proceed with his governorship aspiration.
Hamzat appealed to anyone offended by his decision to forgive him and support his ambition, stressing that his interest in politics was rooted in selfless service, not personal gain.
The broadcaster said he was determined to demonstrate that governance could be carried out without corruption, adding that he believed the people of Oyo State were solidly behind him.
He dismissed fears of electoral manipulation or defeat, saying he was focused on grassroots mobilisation across the state.
Hamzat formally declared his intention to run for governor on Saturday at a rally held at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, where he announced his membership of the Accord Party and reiterated that his ambition was neither driven by wealth nor political influence.
“I have come with God, and that is enough for me,” he said.
