The perception and belief in Nigeria as one indivisible nation or entity has been faulted and described as a misnomer that will not take the country to its political El dorado.
An Ekiti-born medical doctor and politician, Dr Adebayo Orire expressed this position while reacting to some national issues in an interview with journalists at his country- home, Ikoro-Ekiti, Ekiti State, during the burial of his mother, Dorcas Adekunbi orire, who went to her creator at the age of 107.
Dr Orire posited that there is no point sustaining a national identity or oneness that does not favour some parts of the country or ethnic groups. According to him”, for a nation like Nigeria to grow, it must break up”. He believes that if the country breaks up either it prospers, expands and flourishes. Adding that he has been a politician but have not found himself in the forefront of politics because of his being teleguided by the truth.
To the medical practitioner/politician, it will be a political misconception to say that all is well with Nigeria particularly from the perspective of an indivisible nation, stressing that a fundamental cankerworm as at today in Nigeria is inexorable marginalization.
He deplored the current scenario where Nigerians are still living together as one country irrespective of language, tradition, ethnic, religious and cultural differences, frowning that it does not worth it , where a particular section continues to dominate others.
The APC chieftain scored President Bola Ahmed Tinubu high on the journey so far by his government. He described Tinubu as an activist, a very brilliant and seasoned politician who knows his onions when it comes to governance. Dr Orire is optimistic that with the support of his lieutenants in the presidency solutions will be found to the nation’s challenges.
The Ekiti-born politician maintained that the failure to break up Nigeria is tantamount to postponing the evil day. He posed the following questions”, “how can people be killing each other and nothing will happen? How can people be stealing trilions of naira and nothing would happen? How can people be stealing even political positions and nothing would happen?
In another development, Dr Orire who said he is the first son but not the first child remarked that with the demise of his mother, Madam Dorcas Adekunbi Orire, it is normal to be sad notwithstanding the age.
“My mother was old. She was 107 years old . I felt the loss but I was most happy she lived a most beautiful life. She wasn’t sick. She didn’t lose her memory. There’s no loss of any function. When she was going to die, she just changed briefly for a day or two without pain and that’s how good people die”.
He described his mother as very hardworking, selfless and could give her eyes without expecting anything back.
“That’s the most laudable part of it. She was not expecting you to come and help her because she helped you. Not even the children. If you didn’t give her money or anything, she would still pray for you the same way she would pray for the one that gives all the time. She was just good. “My mother was a bank of information. Her memory is beyond physical. Even though she didn’t go to school, she was the one teaching my children a multiplication table. She would understand all the English you’re speaking but she may not be able to respond. She was just very sensitive, perceptive, the woman was good”. He affirmed.
