Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has rolled out fresh welfare support for teachers with the approval of N596.6 million car and housing loans for 807 teaching and non-teaching staff across public secondary schools in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission, Michael Boluwade, who announced the development in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, said the initiative was aimed at boosting workers’ morale and improving their living standards.
According to him, 382 staff will benefit from car loans worth N381.5 million, while 425 staff will receive N215.1 million as housing loans under the newly approved 100 per cent increment in disbursement rates.
Boluwade commended Governor Oyebanji for expanding the commission’s revolving loan fund to accommodate the new rates, urging beneficiaries to use the funds strictly for the intended purposes since repayment would be deducted directly from their monthly salaries.
He said, the gesture aligns with the governor’s pledge during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration, where he highlighted several pro-worker interventions, including:
N400 million housing and vehicle loans already disbursed to 1,447 education workers
Recruitment of 930 subject teachers in secondary schools
Employment of over 1,500 primary school teachers and 48 education officers
Approval of career progression for primary school teachers up to grade level 16
Infrastructure upgrades, training programmes, and implementation of the minimum wage.
