The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled former governors Nyesom Wike, Ayo Fayose and nine other top members over alleged anti-party activities. The party also dissolved the executive committees of Rivers, Abia, Imo, Plateau and Enugu States.
Those expelled include Hon. Abraham Amah, Hon. Umar Bature, Adeyemi Ajibade SAN, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, George Turner, Chief Dan Orbih, Muhammed Abdulrahman and Hon. Austin Nwachukwu.
The motion for the expulsion was moved by Lagos PDP chieftain, Chief Olabode George, while Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State moved the motion for the dissolution of the affected state executives. According to the PDP, the actions were based on Section 33(2) of its 2017 Constitution.
George accused the expelled members of supporting opposition candidates, conducting illegal congresses, sponsoring litigations against the party, and attempting to stop the 2025 National Elective Convention.
The convention, held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Ibadan, was described by party leaders as a turning point for the PDP. Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum; BOT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara; NCOC Chairman and Adamawa Governor, Umar Fintiri; and Governors Makinde and Dauda Lawal all declared that the PDP had regained its unity and strength.
Makinde said the successful convention marked “a positive turnaround” for the party, while Wabara described it as a fulfilment that proved the resilience of the PDP. Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal called for continued unity to secure the future of the party.
Speaking for the Senate Caucus, Senator Abdul Ningi said the large turnout showed that the PDP “is not dead,” stressing that the party’s vision extends beyond 2027. House of Representatives Caucus leader, Hon. Fred Agbedi, assured that PDP lawmakers would remain committed to strengthening the party and confronting internal saboteurs.
