The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four of its top national officers — including the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN) — over alleged misconduct, following a court order that halted the party’s planned national convention.
The decision was taken during an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) held on Saturday at the party’s national secretariat, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, said the suspension, which will last for one month pending investigation, was in accordance with the party’s constitution and disciplinary procedures.
“The NWC, in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution, came to the following conclusion: the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; and National Organising Secretary, Umaru Bature, have been suspended for one month and referred to the PDP Disciplinary Committee,” Ologunagba announced.
In a statement he later issued, Ologunagba explained that the action became necessary to safeguard internal discipline and uphold the integrity of the party amid recent legal and political challenges.
The development comes barely 48 hours after a Federal High Court issued an order restraining the PDP from holding its national convention, citing unresolved leadership disputes within the party.
Party insiders hinted that the affected officers were allegedly involved in actions and decisions that contradicted the collective position of the NWC, though the party has yet to release full details of the allegations.
The latest suspension underscores deepening tensions within the PDP’s national leadership as the party grapples with internal divisions ahead of upcoming political activities.
