An Associate Professor with the Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, ABUAD, Dr. Imade Okokdujie has identified poor engineering services as a major factor contributing to the various challenges limiting the growth and development of Nigeria.
Delivering a public lecture titled Advancing Quality Engineering Services for Sustainable Economy, organized by Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ado Ekiti Branch, Dr. Okokdujie affirmed that every problem facing the country ranging from insecurity, poor economy, electricity, inflation, food shortage are surmountable if government and individual prioritize advanced quality engineering services as witnessed in developed world.
According to her, advanced engineering services would give room for innovations and ideas that would proffer immediate and long term solutions to every situation not minding the sector, whether Agric, Medicine, Economy and others
She called on government to partner universities and sponsor quality research work towards identifying workable solutions to the nations needs and challenges.
Dr. Imade Okokdujie also called on government to develop policy framework that would regulate advanced engineering services and ensure rigorous quality control.
The guest lecturer warned engineers to be patriotic by giving priority to quality other than benefits.
In a remark, the President of the Council, Engineer Margaret Aina Oguntala, represented by a past chairman in Ekiti, Engineer Adeola Johnson said the society was committed to quality control and would continue to do her best towards ensuring that engineers work with utmost diligence and integrity.
Also, the Branch Chairman of the Society, Engineer Omotola Alawode thanked God for the success of the lecture which she said was put together to enable stakeholders brainstorm towards addressing some infractions in the engineering practice.
Similarly, the Chairman of Ado Central Local Council Development Area, Engineer Toyin Ojo affirmed that Engineers are the heart beat of any Nation and a single error or mistake from their end could cause grace damages, hence he urged practitioners to operate with utmost diligence and decency.
The representative of the Ekiti State government at the event, Professor Mobolaji Aluko promised government readiness to partner tertiary institutions in the state and ensure that contractors deliver all projects to specifications.
