As the opposition party grapples to reposition itself ahead of future electoral battles, an ex-Works’ Commissioner in Ekiti State and People’s Democratic Party’s governorship aspirant, Mrs Ogun Funmilayo Theresa, has saluted the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and other colleagues for spearheading good leadership to save the PDP from ruins.
Funmi Ogun expressed confidence that the scheduled November 15-16, 2025 PDP’s National Convention, holding in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital, will bring total redemption to the main opposition party ahead of Ekiti 2026 governorship and 2027 general elections.
The former commissioner gave the encomiums in a statement released to journalists in Ado Ekiti, on Thursday.
Funmi Ogun, in the statement released through his Media Adviser, Oladimeji Olayinka, warned members against anti-party activities that can rob the party of victories in the 2026 and 2027 polls.
She said the PDP is well rooted and positioned across the country to win any election, if members maintain incurable loyalty and fidelity to the party, saying the next convention will address some of the shortcomings affecting the party’s fortunes.
Specifically, Funmi Ogun, applauded the leadership of Governor Makinde and his colleagues across the country, pointing out that their steadfast commitment to the PDP and resolute beliefs, manifested in their resolve to move the parry forward.
Funmi Ogun describes the PDP as the most viable and formidable platform to rid the nation of bad governance.
“Let me congratulate our party leaders, especially our governors, for maintaining loyalty and fidelity to a party that has given them fame and relevance in our nation, which is PDP.
‘Let me specially appreciate the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and his colleagues for providing reliable and effective leadership. The PDP is a human institution and political platform that can’t be immune from crisis and challenges. We are having challenges, but some of these will be addressed at the forthcoming convention.
“The fact that we are planning to convene a meeting of all stakeholders in the midst of this multifaceted crises further confirmed the PDP as a party to beat in future elections. It underscores the prime values we place on good governance and relevance of Nigerians in taking decisions that can be in the best interest of the populace.
“I am confident that we are going to emerge from that convention with a new set of leadership that will champion cohesion, unity of purpose and marshall a more pragmatic political system that will take us to the promised land in the future elections”, Funmi Ogun stated.
She appealed to PDP members across the nation not to be deceived by political desperados to joining either the ruling or any party masquerading as opposition.
“As things stand today, the PDP has 12 governors, with formidable structures across all the 774 local governments and over 8,000 wards across the country.
“The PDP has a record in this nation. Nigerians knew what we stand for: Which is good governance, that we offered between 1999 and 2015. We are still in position and ever ready to bring such magic wands to bare for Nigerians and rescue our nation from hunger and poverty”, the PDP leader assured.
