In light of recent global and national discussions surrounding the security situation in Nigeria, particularly comments reportedly attributed to former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the state of insecurity in the country, I wish to respectfully draw the attention of the Ekiti State Government to the need for heightened vigilance and proactive security reinforcement across our state.
Nigeria continues to grapple with the persistent threat posed by insurgents, bandits, and other violent criminal networks operating in different regions, especially in the northern parts of the country. As security pressure mounts on these groups from federal forces and international alliances, there is a growing concern that such elements may attempt to migrate towards relatively peaceful states in the southern region, seeking new operational hideouts or passage routes.
Ekiti State remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria—a status achieved through sustained government commitment, community vigilance, and strong collaboration among security agencies. However, peace is best protected when preventive measures are consistently assessed and reinforced before threats emerge.
As neighboring states continue to report episodes of kidnapping, violent attacks, and cross-border movements of armed elements, it becomes imperative that Ekiti State strengthens surveillance and security presence, particularly in border communities, rural settlements, forests, and vulnerable transit corridors. Enhanced intelligence gathering, increased patrols, community–security partnerships, and deliberate investment in local security infrastructure will greatly contribute to safeguarding our state.
My concern is rooted in a desire to see Ekiti maintain its long-standing reputation as a stable, secure, and hospitable environment for residents, investors, visitors, and institutions. A proactive approach is far more effective than reactive crisis management.
I, therefore, humbly appeal to the Ekiti State Government to:
1. Intensify collaboration with federal security agencies, including the military, police, DSS, and civil defense.
2. Support and strengthen community-based security initiatives, such as vigilante networks and local intelligence structures.
3. Increase surveillance and a visible security presence in border towns and forested areas.
4. Invest in early-warning systems and rapid-response mechanisms to ensure swift action when threats are detected.
5. Engage traditional rulers, community leaders, and youth groups to promote information-sharing and neighborhood vigilance.
This appeal is made in good faith and out of deep concern for the safety, future, and collective well-being of our people. Ekiti State has enjoyed relative peace under the current administration, and it is my hope that this legacy of stability will be safeguarded and sustained.
May our leaders continue to be guided by wisdom, and may our state remain a haven of peace, progress, and security.
