The Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The development followed a plenary session of the Assembly, during which lawmakers cited alleged constitutional and administrative breaches as grounds for initiating the process.
The plenary, which was earlier scheduled to reconvene on January 26, was reportedly brought forward, signaling the urgency and gravity of the unfolding political situation.

The ongoing power struggle between former Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Governor Fubara has continued to fuel crises across the oil-rich Niger Delta state.
Recall, Wike had openly opposed the reelection of Gov Fubara , saying the mistake of 2023 would not be repeated for him to be relevant politically in Nigeria.
More details are expected as events unfold.
