The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ekiti State Command, has recorded a notable reduction in road traffic crashes and fatalities in the state in 2025, attributing the achievement to sustained enforcement, advocacy and stakeholder collaboration.
The Sector Commander, FRSC RS 8.2 Ekiti, Corps Commander Sanya Adeoye, disclosed this in a press release made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, while reviewing the command’s 2025 activities and outlining plans for 2026.
According to the release, road crashes reduced from 84 cases in 2024 to 62 in 2025, representing a 26.19 per cent drop. Fatalities declined from 18 to 10, while injury cases fell from 65 to 47. The total number of persons involved in crashes also reduced significantly from 535 in 2024 to 266 in 2025.
The command attributed the improvement to prompt rescue operations, strengthened enforcement and consistent efforts to address major crash causative factors across all parts of the state.
Enforcement records showed an increase in offenders apprehended, rising from 20,295 in 2024 to 24,101 in 2025, with riding motorcycles without helmets and failure to use seat belts remaining the most common offences. Mobile court activities also increased, with more offenders prosecuted and justice dispensed.
FRSC also recorded increased advocacy through engagements with motoring unions, religious institutions and the media, alongside a slight rise in drivers’ licence applications.
Looking ahead, the Ekiti FRSC Command said it would deploy data-driven operations and intensify advocacy in 2026 to achieve at least a 10 per cent reduction in road crashes. The command urged motorists to remain safety conscious and reminded the public that its toll-free emergency line, 122, remains available for road emergencies.
