Social Democratic Party (SDP), the third force in the last governorship election in Ekiti State has been engulfed in crisis, following the leadership plan to deny the popular aspirants vying for National Assembly tickets.
Aggrieved aspirants and their supporters condemned in totality the undemocratic and uncivilized actions of the party’s cabal to have denied the most popular and acceptable aspirants in to the House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate.
The Members of SDP in Ado, Irepodun – Ifelodun Federal Constituency were said to have been disappointed and vowed to leave the party for not fielding the most popular, major financier of the party in Ekiti State, Mr Rasaq Temitayo Zubair popularly called “TZAR” in Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 1 Ado Irepodun Ifelodun was said to have been denied the ticket in favor of an unpopular candidate, Obayemi Toyin .
In a chat with Precise news online some of the stakeholders and youths in the Constituency, alleged that the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party, Otunba Ladi Owolabi, The Director General of Segun Oni campaign group, Ambassador Dare Bejide, SDP state chairman, Dr Dele Ekunola and other cabal were perceived to have been bought over by Toyin Obayemi who was given the ticket.
The aggrieved members said the action by the selected few cabals that cannot be questioned by chief Segun Oni is a testament that SDP as a party is worse than the APC and the PDP.
Findings also revealed that the assessment contracted to an independent body to determine the acceptability and commitment of aspirants by the party leadership and the governorship candidate, chief Segun Oni was in favour of TZAR but was upturned by the cabal.
“The only thing they did that served as cheating to me was the agreement that no aspirant name should be fielded before the election which led to presentation of dummy names before the election, why did the party leadership now put Toyin obayemi’s name as dummy when he was among the aspirants? After election, the name remains even when we have other representatives aspirants that won their wards, units and even provided the posters as demanded .Presenting Obayemi’s name before election is fraudulent and partial. The truth needs be told”. A party member lamented.
In another development, similar injustice was said to have been displayed by the same cabal as the supporters of the leading aspirant, Oluomo Arowolo who has been seen everywhere in Ekiti Central senatorial Districts was embittered as Barrister Obafemi Adewale (SAN) was given the senatorial ticket for Ekiti Central senatorial District despite joining the party barely one week to the election.
The supporters of a leading aspirant, Oluomo Arowolo were breathing hot and cold when the news filtered that Obafemi who just joined the party few days to Gubernatorial election is the preferred candidate of Segun Oni and his cabal in Ekiti North senatorial District, party men and women alleged that the choice of unpopular Titi Owolabi as the senatorial candidate was based on her unholy relationship with one of the leaders of the party
Members of the party averred that if the injustices are not corrected on time that might be the end of the party in Ekiti state.
