NISSI Foundation, a Non Governmental Agency known for caring for widows and the aged in Ekiti state has advised widows to take good care of themselves and their children.
Over one hundred and fifty persons benefitted from the Foundation’s 2023 December Outreach. Addressing the participants, the president of the foundation, Mrs Oyeyemi Kayode Ojo charged the beneficiaries not to lose hope noting that the fact that they lost their husbands does not warrant that they neglect their children. She encouraged them to brace up, take care of their health and see how they can also impact society positively. Saying the aged must be conscious of the proper management of their bodies and follow the instructions of the health practitioners on nutrition and food intake to enjoy good health. She assured them that there are God’s blessings awaiting them as long as they hope in God because age is no barrier to what God can do.
The president gave the charge at the 10th anniversary and the 4th series meant for the Public service category where two nominees from each MDAs in Ekiti state benefitted.
The programme took place at the Main hall of the old Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti.
The president of the foundation, Mrs Oyeyemi Kayode Ojo who explained that the program was poised on her experience while growing up having been raised by a widow said the move was a way to give back to the society and to keep the instruction of God about caring for the needy in the neighborhood.
We are showing love and encouraging the elderly ones about their health and other challenges that they might be facing while we also use the avenue to remind them to lean on God for sure support.
We have three categories for this program every year, the one for the Church which comes in the mid-year, the one for the public sector and the visitation to some areas where we have a lot of old people to reach out to within the state, particularly in the Ado Ekiti metropolis; Irona, Odo Ado, Ojudo, and other parts of the state capital where you can find real old people who can hardly go out again.
About the theme of the program ( Blessings Even In Old Age), she charged them to be a blessing within their capacities by reaching out to others whose conditions are more critical than theirs and assisting, noting that by doing that, more people would be impacted. She lauded the various human efforts and support received from people. She commended the selfless service of Mr Tope Ogundare and other notable friends towards the success of the program.
In his sermon, Pastor Taiwo Ajobiewe who spoke on the theme of the 2023 outreach “Blessing even in Old age “ gave various biblical examples to show that age does not matter when God is at work. He charged the participants to keep having faith in God with prayers.
He also charged them to take cues from the foundation and reach out to other people in critical conditions.
The program also featured a health talk by Mrs Funke Martins -Adetoye who spoke extensively on the menopausal and andropausal symptoms. She emphasized on the need to take enough water, regular exercise, cultivate the habit of eating well and rightly, avoiding in-between meals, noting that regular medical checks must not be taken for granted.
According to her, Christians must apply knowledge to faith to avoid illnesses going beyond control.
The husband of the Founder and president of the NISSI foundation, Mr Kayode Ojo who presided over the prayer session called on privileged people in the society to always remember those in need. Meal package and raw food items were given to the participants. Some of the beneficiaries thanked the foundation for the timely assistance they always received while they prayed for more grace over the president and founder of the NGO.
