The United States has issued a fresh warning that Nigerian government officials involved in corruption could face visa restrictions.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, the US Mission in Nigeria reiterated that the fight against corruption has no borders, stressing that accountability applies to everyone, including high-ranking individuals.
“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving US visas,” the Mission declared.
The US government has previously imposed visa bans on Nigerian politicians accused of electoral malpractice and attempts to undermine democratic processes.
This renewed caution comes at a time of heightened concerns about alleged mismanagement of public funds and abuse of office across various levels of government in Nigeria.
