As the preparations for the June 20 governorship election gathers steam, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Adesola Gold Adedayo, has declared that the continuity agenda of Governor Biodun Oyebanji remains the best option for Ekiti citizens to be able to build a state they can be proud of.
Adedayo, who described Oyebanji as a transformational leader, said continuity of the present government till 2030 will ensure economic stability, infrastructure facelift, security and youth development that are gradually savouring meteoric upswing in the policies of government.
The Osun Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area born politician, gave the advice to the electorate on Tuesday, during a chat with some youth groups who paid a courtesy visit to his office in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital.
Addressing the youth leaders, Adedayo said the state can’t afford to fall back into trial and error kind of leadership, by ushering a neophyte to govern the state, when the state already has a leader that is consolidating on the foundation laid by his predecessors.
He saluted the governor for redefining politics, economy and governance through peace- building initiatives, partnership and prudent management of resources accruing to the state.
Adedayo described those jostling to take over leadership from Oyebanji as neophytes, who are not vastly grounded in leadership and governance, saying nobody will be allowed to manifest mediocrity in leadership in the state when there is a qualified individual to drive it to prosperity.
The commissioner said the people were already enthralled with politics of civility that had united all political tendencies and raising of infrastructure standards to a higher pedestal being played by Governor Oyebanji, describing these as the best path to posterity.
“Just take a look at the opposition candidates, none of them has professed having any masterplan that is better than what Governor Biodun Oyebanji is offering .
“The antecedents of those angling to wrest power from the governor didn’t speak volume. They only manifest that all of them are neophytes in governance unlike the governor, who had been appointed as Special Assistant, Chief of Staff, two time commissioner and Secretary to the State Government before assuming this present office.
“As we speak today, what the people need is good manifestation of governance deeply rooted in performance and experience, not a trial and error kind of leadership that will reverse the development gear back to the days of locusts”.
Speaking further, Adedayo added that Governor Oyebanji has blazed the trail and remained an enigma through airport project that had connected Ekiti to the world, the ultra modern Ado Ekiti flyover, the strategically located intra and inter city roads, rural road accessibility, commercial agriculture that had employed over 4,500 youths, employment of over 20,000 to formal and informal sectors, and training of over 2,000 of youths in digital education, among others
He enjoined Ekiti electorate to rebuff the tantrums of the opposition claiming that Oyebanji has not performed creditably well and vote massively to retain him in power till 2030.
“When Governor Oyebanji came into office, the internally generated revenue was undulating between N700 and N800 million monthly. But today, Ekiti rakes in between N2.5 and N3 billion monthly. Besides this masterpiece achievement, Ekiti now has a digitalized Revenue House that has blocked all loopholes in tax collection”.
Adedayo maintained that the continuity agenda which Governor Oyebanji represents was more of a favour to the state owing to its impressive advantages, than being viewed as a favouritism to enhance the governor’s political prowess and attainments.
