The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians that the 2027 general elections will reflect the true will of the electorate, reaffirming its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible and transparent polls across the country. The commission said it is strengthening electoral processes to boost public confidence ahead of the elections.
INEC stated that lessons learnt from previous elections are being carefully reviewed, with deliberate efforts underway to address identified shortcomings. According to the commission, improvements in election management, logistics and the deployment of technology will ensure a more credible electoral process in 2027
The electoral body also assured eligible Nigerians that no qualified voter would be denied the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right during the elections. It emphasized that ongoing voter registration and continuous updates of the voters’ register are aimed at promoting inclusiveness and safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.
INEC further called on political parties, civil society organisations, the media and other stakeholders to support efforts towards peaceful and issue-based campaigns. It stressed that the success of the 2027 general elections would depend on the collective commitment of all stakeholders to democratic principles and the rule of law.
The commission expressed confidence that the reforms and preparations already in progress would enhance transparency and strengthen public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system. It urged citizens to participate actively in the electoral process, assuring them that every valid vote would count and that the outcome of the 2027 elections would genuinely reflect the wishes of the Nigerian people.
