The Vice Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU), Professor Joseph Babatola Ayodele, has said sixteen thousand, four hundred and forty sixty (16,446) graduates of the University for 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions would be conferred with Diplomas, Bachelor Degrees and Higher Degrees.
Adding that 200 graduates would be conferred with First Class Honour.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed this on Monday during the press conference held at the University for the 29th convocation ceremony holding on Friday, 28th and Saturday 29th March, 2025.
The Vice Chancellor who said the University would also confer Honorary Doctorate Degrees on three eminent personalities in Nigeria, namely: Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (CON), the Senate Leader, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, the Executive Chairman, lFederal Inland Revenue Service, and Dr. Mansur Muhtar, the Chairman, Board of the Bank of Industry.
Reiterating the essence of the conferment, Prof Babalola said the conferment of honorary Doctorate Degrees in 2024 was the immediate commencement of the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) in the University, facilitated by one the honourees. “As part of the efforts of this administration to continue to sustain our university’s leading role and dominance among the comity of universities in Nigeria”. Said the VC.
Stressing that the Governing Council at its meeting held recently equally approved that Management should set machineries in motion, for the establishment of two new academic programmes in the Faculty of Engineering and the College of Medicine which are; Agricultural Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, which is in addition to the approval of fund to prepare for the NUC resource assessment visit to Mechatronics Engineering Programme. The VC added.
Also, he boastfully announced that all academic programmes in the University have been accredited by the National Universities Comission (NUC), except for a few ones that are yet to mature.
Professor Babatola also explained that the College of Medicine of the University in conjunction with the College of Postgraduate Studies, has mounted Doctorate Degree Programme in Medicine which according to him, is probably the first of its kind in Nigeria.
“All these positive innovations are expected to accelerate the drive for the sustainability of our pride of place among Nigerian Universities “. Babatola maintained.
The VC appreciated the State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji for his unflinching support in all fronts , also appreciated the staff and management of the institution who had helped in moving the institution forward .
