In order to restore Ekiti forest reserves and promote environmental sustainability, the Ekiti State Government, has entered into a strategic Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with MBH Global Resources Limited, a reputable forestry and agro-industrial company.
The Governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Habibat Adubiaro, at the official signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), stated that the partnership marks the beginning of a transformative reforestation initiative covering over 1,000 hectares of degraded land across the state.
He noted that the project involves the planting of thousands of economic trees—a combination of exotic and indigenous species—to restore deforested areas, protect existing forests from encroachment, create jobs, and increase the state’s internally generated revenue.
“This partnership is a clear example of how Ekiti is leveraging its natural endowments to build a resilient green economy. Through this effort, we are restoring the environment, creating employment, and revitalising our rural communities. Our message to the private sector is simple: Ekiti is open for green business,” the Governor stated.
Governor Oyebanji emphasized that the 30-year agreement will not only yield long-term environmental benefits but also ensure a steady revenue stream for the state, with 30% of the timber value returned to Ekiti as part of the investment model.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MBH Global Resources Limited, Prince Adebanjo Adejuwon, praised Governor Oyebanji for his commitment to sustainable development, stating that the Governor’s readiness to embrace green investment sends a powerful message that Ekiti is leading by example.
The reforestation project will commence with the planting of 100 hectares at the Ise Forest Reserve in Ise/Orun Local Government Area, and will be jointly supervised by MBH Global Resources Limited and the Ekiti State Forestry Commission.
Also present at the event were the Executive Secretary of the Ekiti State Forestry Commission, Mr. Sunday Adekunle, and the Governor’s Technical Adviser on Ecology Matters and Green Economy, Dr. Akinyemi Akinyugha.
