The Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, has restated his commitment towards conducting free, fair and credible elections in the State.
The Commissioner, while speaking with newsmen about the forthcoming governorship election in the state in his office at the INEC Headquarters Ado-Ekiti, explained that measures are being put in place to contain any act capable of undermining the good conduct of the election.
Towards improving on its operations generally, the REC disclosed that INEC has put in place mechanisms to checkmate fraudsters attempting to register with fake documents.
While urging journalists to always disseminate genuine information to the general public, Dr. Omoseyindemi equally cautioned against disinformation which according to him usually resulted in violence during the election.
Stressing that stakeholders’ meeting had been held to this effect where market women, CSOs, political parties and others were in attendance. Adding that political activities would pick up in the State by October, this year.
Reeling out the dates as released by the INEC, the Resident Electoral Commissioner reiterated that the primary elections will hold between October 20 – November 10, 2025, while submission of nomination forms holds between November 28 – December 27, 2025, and that the publication of final list of Candidates is scheduled for January 18, 2026, as campaigns for the election slated for June 20, 2026 would begin on January 21, 2026.
Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, therefore urged the eligible members of the public to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which includes fresh registration, correction of personal details, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and transfer of voter registration to enable them exercise their franchise during the elections.
