Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reshuffled his executive council with the appointment of two new commissioners and a special adviser.
At a swearing-in ceremony held on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Umuahia, the governor announced Salome Obiukwu as Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Chiemela Uzoije as Commissioner for Housing, and Christian Enweremadu as Special Adviser on Agriculture.
Otti further revealed a cabinet adjustment, noting that former Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Kingsley Nwokocha, has been redeployed as Commissioner for Labour and Productivity. In addition, the Ministry of Lands and Housing has been split into two separate portfolios to enhance efficiency, with Chaka Chukwumerije now serving as Commissioner for Lands.
The governor explained that the reshuffle was part of his administration’s strategy to inject fresh energy and broaden the scope of government performance.
“Today’s appointments are a deliberate move to strengthen our team with new ideas and capacity. We expect the new officials to settle in immediately—there is no time for a honeymoon,” Otti said.
While congratulating the appointees for scaling through the rigorous nomination and screening process, the governor reminded them of his administration’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption and warned that anyone found wanting would be sanctioned.
