The immediate past National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has expressed strong confidence in his chances of clinching the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Osun governorship election for August 8, 2026, while the party primaries are to be held between November 24 and December 15, 2025.
Declaring his intention to contest the APC governorship ticket at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo on Tuesday, Omisore said he enjoys overwhelming support from party members across the state, adding that his victory at the primary is almost certain.
“If we go to the primaries today, I will win more than 90 per cent of the votes. By God’s grace, I shall emerge and deliver an APC government by next year August,” Omisore said.
Flanked by notable party leaders and supporters, the former deputy governor of Osun State under Chief Bisi Akande’s administration noted that the massive turnout of volunteers from all parts of the state reflected the readiness of APC members to reclaim power in 2026.
He added “APC’s chances in 2026 are 100 percent. This gathering is an internal preparation for the forthcoming primaries to show the strength of our rescue mission and the people’s belief in the coming APC government.”
Omisore, who represented Osun East in the Senate between 2003 and 2011, promised maturity in governance, improvement in education and agriculture, rural development, infrastructural expansion, and people-oriented policies if elected governor.
Meanwhile, no fewer than twelve aspirants have so far indicated interest in the APC governorship ticket. They include the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji; former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Babajide Omoworare; Dotun Babayemi, a lawyer and son of the late Olufi of Gbongan; former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi; Chairman of Mutual Assurance Benefits, Akin Ogunbiyi; and legal practitioner Kunle Adegoke (SAN), among others.
As competition intensifies, verbal clashes among supporters of various aspirants have become frequent, especially on social media. To address this, the Osun APC State Working Committee (SWC) has issued new disciplinary measures to maintain unity ahead of the primaries.
In a statement signed by the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the SWC warned members against engaging in attacks on fellow aspirants or party leaders, stressing that executive officers at all levels — from the state to the wards — are barred from coordinating campaigns for any aspirant.
“The State Working Committee has resolved to instil discipline among erring members by outlawing any executive officer at all levels from acting as coordinator for any governorship aspirant,” the statement read in part.
The APC leadership assured members that internal mechanisms are in place to ensure a peaceful and transparent primary that will strengthen the party ahead of the 2026 polls.
