The Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to fiscal transparency and accountable management of public resources following its top ranking in the latest fiscal transparency assessment by Budget
Budget’s report, titled States Fiscal Transparency League (SFTL) Q4 2025, ranked Ekiti among nine states that achieved the highest score of 39 points — the maximum obtainable under the indicators used in the assessment.
The report also noted that Ekiti maintained the top position throughout the entire 2025 fiscal year, a performance attributed to the state’s institutionalised transparency systems and consistent disclosure of fiscal information.
Reacting to the development, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, described the ranking as a strong affirmation of the state government’s commitment to open governance, fiscal responsibility and accountability. Olatunbosun, in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday in Ado‑Ekiti, said the recognition reflects deliberate reforms implemented by the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to ensure that government financial processes remain transparent and accessible to the public.
“The BudgIT report is a strong endorsement of Ekiti State’s consistent commitment to transparency and accountability in public financial management. Our government has deliberately built systems that ensure fiscal information is regularly published and easily accessible to citizens, investors, development partners and oversight institutions,” he said.
The commissioner noted that Ekiti’s sustained top ranking throughout 2025 demonstrates that the state has moved beyond occasional compliance to institutionalised transparency practices embedded within its governance structure. He explained that the state government has continued to ensure the timely publication of quarterly budget implementation reports, maintain functional fiscal data repositories and operate accessible procurement platforms in line with global best practices in public financial management.
According to him, the government will continue to strengthen transparency mechanisms across ministries, departments and agencies in order to deepen accountability and improve service delivery to residents.
“This achievement will not make us complacent. Rather, it will motivate us to sustain and further strengthen the systems that guarantee prudent management of public funds and transparency in government operations,” Olatunbosun said.
He also commended BudgIT and other civic organisations for their efforts in promoting transparency, accountability and citizen participation in governance across Nigeria. The commissioner assured residents that the Oyebanji administration would continue to uphold the highest standards of fiscal openness to ensure that public resources are responsibly managed for the development and welfare of the people of Ekiti State.
