Tension has gripped Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, following the alleged killing of a 25-year-old woman, Kehinde Onizeokaraga, by her husband, Ibrahim Sodiq, popularly known as Alfa Eleran.
Sodiq, a meat seller, allegedly attacked Kehinde repeatedly with a machete during a domestic dispute on Wednesday, inflicting injuries that resulted in her death.
The incident reportedly occurred at the residence of Lamidi Salawu, a friend of the deceased’s father, where the couple had gone for mediation over their unresolved marital differences. The disagreement allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation before the fatal attack.
The victim’s cousin, Lawrence Yusuf, alleged that Kehinde had been planning to leave the marriage and was scheduled to travel to her sister’s residence in Idoani, Ondo State, on Thursday.
Yusuf alleged that Kehinde was invited to Salawu’s residence on Wednesday morning by his wife, unaware that her husband would also be present. He said the attempt to resolve the marital dispute later turned violent.
According to him, some persons, including Salawu, his wife and the man who stood as Sodiq’s father during the wedding, had been taken into police custody, while the alleged suspect remained at large.
Yusuf appealed to security agencies to apprehend Sodiq and ensure justice for the deceased, saying, “We want Sodiq to be found and arrested. We want justice for Kehinde. Her parents are in pain and my family is in serious agony. She didn’t deserve this.”
However, the Ekiti State Police Command had yet to officially confirm the incident as of the time of filing this report.
