A middle-aged mother of three, Mrs. Olaitan Amire, has been reportedly hacked to death by unknown assailants in Ido Ekiti, the headquarters of Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
A relative of the deceased, Mr. Dare Akinola, disclosed the incident to journalists at the Ido Ekiti Police Station on Sunday, stating that the attack occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026
According to Akinola, the matter has been reported to the police, while two suspects have been arrested and are currently being interrogated in connection with the incident.
He revealed that there had been an earlier attempt to set the deceased’s residence ablaze on Friday night. He explained that the attempt was foiled after a passerby noticed smoke and raised an alarm, preventing the fire from spreading through the building.
“Unfortunately, she was not as lucky on Saturday. The attackers hacked her on the head, face, legs and several other parts of her body, leading to her death,” Akinola said.
He further alleged that after killing Mrs. Amire, the assailants attempted to burn her body.
According to him, they covered the corpse with clothes and other household items before placing a container suspected to contain petrol beside it.
The motive behind the gruesome attack remains unclear as investigations continue.
Efforts to obtain the reaction of the Ekiti State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls made to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Abutu, were not answered as of the time of filing this report.
