The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Zone RS8, has launched a three-day Special Intervention Patrol, codenamed “Operation Kasolayo” (Safe Arrival), across Kwara, Ekiti and Kogi states to enhance road safety and reduce traffic crashes. The operation, approved by the Corps Marshal, commenced on Monday, July 20, and will end on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, covering major highways, strategic corridors and crash-prone locations within the zone.
The Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Ann Oladayo, disclosed this during a press briefing at the FRSC Zonal Headquarters in Ilorin, Kwara State. She explained that the intervention followed a six-month analysis of road traffic crashes recorded between January and June 2026, which identified human factors as the leading causes of crashes in the zone.
According to Oladayo, the operation combines strict enforcement with intensive public enlightenment to curb dangerous driving habits and promote safer road use. She noted that the Corps is determined to reduce avoidable crashes by ensuring compliance with traffic regulations throughout the period of the exercise. She said enforcement teams would focus on offences such as over speeding, dangerous and reckless driving, overloading of passengers and goods, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the use of worn-out tyres and other traffic violations that endanger road users. To ensure effective implementation, the FRSC has deployed 1,500 officers and men, supported by 50 patrol vehicles, patrol motorcycles, two heavy-duty tow trucks, one light tow truck, ambulances and rescue equipment strategically positioned for prompt emergency response. Mobile courts have also been arranged to facilitate the immediate prosecution of traffic offenders.
The Zonal Commanding Officer urged motorists, fleet operators and other road users to cooperate with FRSC personnel and obey traffic regulations, stressing that the operation is aimed at saving lives and ensuring safe journeys. She also advised members of the public to report road emergencies and traffic violations through the FRSC toll-free emergency line, 122, or the Zone RS8 Command and Control Centre.
