Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has taken an early lead in the ongoing collation of results from the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The Independent National Electoral Commission commenced the state-level collation and announcement of results in the early hours of Sunday at the State Collation Centre.
As of the latest announcement, results from 22 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas had been declared.
According to the figures announced by the returning officers, Adeleke had so far polled 387,929 votes, ahead of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who had garnered 327,577 votes.
The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, was a distant third with 9,547 votes across the 22 local government areas announced.
Adeleke recorded particularly strong performances in his traditional strongholds, including Ede North, Ede South, Ife East, Ife Central, Iwo, Osogbo and several other local government areas.
Oyebamiji, however, secured notable victories in some areas, including Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakunmosa West and Irewole.
In Ede North, Adeleke polled 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283, while in Ede South, the incumbent governor secured 26,188 votes to the APC candidate’s 6,219.
Adeleke also won Osogbo with 36,480 votes against Oyebamiji’s 30,474 votes.
In Irewole, however, Oyebamiji recorded a commanding victory, polling 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934.
Similarly, the APC candidate won Ilesa East with 16,208 votes, compared with Adeleke’s 12,280 votes.
The collation is being supervised by INEC’s State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.
With eight local government areas yet to be announced, the final outcome of the election remains pending.
INEC is expected to continue the collation and announcement of results until results from all 30 local government areas have been received and formally declared.
The 2026 Osun governorship election is being closely watched as Adeleke seeks another term in office, while the APC candidate, Oyebamiji, is challenging the incumbent for the governorship of the state.
