The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved the appointment of Prince Bamidele Olanrewaju Oni as the new Owa of Oke-Ako Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area, ending a 25-year vacancy in the traditional stool.
The approval was one of the major decisions reached at the Council’s sixth meeting of 2026, held on Tuesday at the Executive Council Chamber, New Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for information, RT. Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun noted that the emergence of Prince Oni followed years of litigation over the rotation of the stool among the ruling houses and stocks.
The Supreme Court, in a judgment delivered on December 19, 2025, affirmed the right of male members of the three stocks under the Aofin Ruling House to contest for the stool. Following the judgment, stakeholders reached a Memorandum of Understanding to promote equity and communal harmony, paving the way for the selection process.
Prince Oni, born on March 2, 1974, holds a Higher National Diploma in Business Administration and Management from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.
The State Executive Council also authorised the publication of the Legal Notice of his appointment in the Ekiti State Government Gazette.
The appointment is expected to restore stability to the traditional institution and promote unity and development in Oke-Ako Ekiti.
