As part of the efforts to give the youths global exposure in leadership, the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has sponsored the State Youth Parliament (EYP) to an international Diploma conference in Sierra Leone.
A statement signed by the Speaker, Ekiti State Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Babatunde Tijesu Daniel, and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday, disclosed that the delegation arrived in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on Tuesday, to participate in the International conference.
He said the contingents, led by the Deputy Speaker of the Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Oloruntimilehin Fortunate, touched down at the Freetown International Airport ahead of the conference, which brings together young leaders and youth representatives from different countries to engage on diplomacy, leadership, governance, international relations and youth development.
Underscoring the significance of the trip, Babatunde stated that it will expose them to international leadership training and participations to create enabling environment for knowledge sharing and peer review mechanism.
The youth parliament leader said the Governor’s sponsorship underscores his administration’s commitment to investing in the capacity development of Ekiti youths and creating opportunities for them to gain international exposure, broaden their perspectives and acquire leadership skills that will contribute meaningfully to the development of the State and Nigeria at large.
The Speaker stated further that the participation is also expected to strengthen their understanding of global issues and democratic leadership while providing a platform for them to network with young leaders from across the world and share the Ekiti experience.
He added that the sponsorship buttressed the Ekiti State Government incurable commitment to supporting initiatives that empower young people to become responsible leaders, active citizens and effective contributors to society.
The delegation, according to him, is expected to participate fully in the conference and return with valuable knowledge, experiences and networks that can further enrich the work of the Ekiti State Youth Parliament.
The Youth Parliament leader appreciated Governor Oyebanji for his continued commitment to youth development and for providing Ekiti youths with platforms to learn, lead and represent the State on the international stage.
